Dignity
Nobody we serve is a case or a photograph. Care is offered in a way people can accept without shame.
Home/About
Who we areBluebird Kids Foundation & Mental Health has been working in Ghanaian communities since 2012, and was formally incorporated in 2024 as a company limited by guarantee. We work for underprivileged children and for people living with mental health conditions — because both are too easily left out of sight.
We improve the lives of deprived children and people living with mental health conditions through compassionate care, education, healthcare, rehabilitation, advocacy and sustainable community development.
In practice that means showing up: with meals and clean clothes on an outreach day, with a barber's chair and a bowl of warm water, at the gates of a hospital ward, and in the long conversations with government, clinicians and donors that a permanent facility will require.
Nobody we serve is a case or a photograph. Care is offered in a way people can accept without shame.
Cost should not decide who receives mental health care or whether a child sees a doctor.
We go to the communities and the wards, repeatedly, rather than waiting to be approached.
Lasting change needs government, clinicians, corporates and donors pulling in the same direction.
Founder & President
Langford Quarpong is a Ghanaian building consultant, real estate developer and humanitarian dedicated to transforming the lives of underprivileged children and strengthening mental healthcare in Ghana. He is the Founder and President of Bluebird Kids Foundation and Mental Health, a non-profit organisation committed to providing hope, dignity and opportunity through child welfare initiatives and the development of modern mental health services.
In 2012, driven by a vision to improve the lives of vulnerable children and advocate for better mental healthcare in Ghana, he established the foundation. Since its inception it has served as the platform through which he pursues sustainable solutions promoting child welfare, mental health awareness and access to quality care.
With a professional background in building consultancy, architectural planning and real estate development, Langford has built his career around creating sustainable infrastructure that serves communities. His expertise in planning and construction has inspired a vision that extends beyond buildings to designing environments that promote healing, recovery and human dignity.
A defining moment in his life occurred while living in the United States, where he experienced mental health challenges and was admitted to Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center in Maryland. During his treatment and recovery he witnessed firsthand the quality of compassionate care provided within a purpose-built therapeutic environment. As a building professional, he carefully observed the hospital's architectural design, patient-centred layouts, safety systems and healing spaces, gaining a unique understanding of how thoughtful infrastructure can significantly improve mental health outcomes.
Following his recovery, Langford transformed this personal experience into a lifelong mission. He returned to Ghana determined to contribute to the modernisation of mental healthcare by advocating for facilities that meet international standards while respecting the dignity of every individual. Through extensive research and visits to mental health institutions across Ghana, he concluded that the country has a tremendous opportunity to invest in modern, patient-centred mental healthcare infrastructure comparable to leading international facilities.
His long-term vision is the development of a world-class Mental Health and Rehabilitation Center in Ghana that integrates international best practices in healthcare design with comprehensive clinical care, rehabilitation services, recreational therapy, vocational training and community reintegration programmes. The facility is envisioned as a center of excellence that will provide individuals living with mental health conditions a safe, dignified and therapeutic environment for recovery.
That vision also extends to providing free mental healthcare for individuals living with mental health conditions across Ghana, as well as free healthcare services for underprivileged children. Through the foundation he aspires to remove financial barriers to essential healthcare, ensuring that vulnerable children and people experiencing mental health challenges receive compassionate, high-quality care regardless of their economic circumstances.
Alongside his commitment to mental healthcare, Langford leads initiatives focused on healthcare access, nutrition, education, psychosocial support, child protection and overall well-being for underprivileged children. His belief is that every child deserves the opportunity to grow in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment regardless of social or economic circumstances.
Langford actively seeks strategic partnerships with governments, international development agencies, philanthropic foundations, healthcare institutions, corporate organisations and individual donors who share a commitment to creating lasting social impact. He believes that collaboration, innovation and responsible leadership are essential to building sustainable solutions that strengthen healthcare systems and improve the lives of vulnerable communities.
